Name of the Society

The name of the Society shall be “STATE MEDICINAL PLANTS BOARD, TAMILNADU”, here in after called as Board.

The Registered office of the Board shall be at Chennai and function at Aringar Anna Government Hospital of Indian Medicine Campus, Arumbakkam, Chennai-106.

Aims & Objectives

  • Promotion of ex-situ and in-situ cultivation and conservation of medicinal plants in Tamil Nadu.
  • Identification, Investigation and quantification of medicinal plants.
  • Creation and development of experimental plots of medicinal plants and imparting training to farmers/growers for promotion of ex-situ cultivation.
  • Educating researchers, farmers, students and common man about the uses, benefits and importance of medicinal plants in their day – to – day life.
  • Conducting training, workshops, seminars etc. on medicinal plants and developing training modules for growers, buyers, NGOs, Traders etc.
  • Establishing analytical laboratory for quality testing and certification of medicinal plants produce.
  • Ensuring quality control of medicinal plants and medicinal plants produce.
  • Providing quality planting stock for ex-situ conservation.
  • Facilitating research in the field of Indian System of Medicine & Homoeopathy and on medicinal plants.
  • Assessment of demand and supply position relating to medicinal plants both within and outside Tamil Nadu and providing it to growers & buyers.
  • Provide guidance in the formulation of proposals, schemes and programmes to be taken by individuals/ Agencies having access to land for cultivation and infrastructure for collection, storage and transportation of medicinal plants.
  • Promotion of Co-operative effort among collectors and growers and assisting them to store, transport and market their produce effectively.
  • Establishing backward and forward linkages between collectors, growers, retailers and wholesalers to ensure proper & effective marketing of medicinal plants produces.
  • Setting up of database system for inventorisation, dissemination of information and facilitating the prevention of plants being obtained for medicinal use of plants, which is in the public domain.
  • Matter relating to import/ export of raw material, as well as value added products either as medicine, food supplements or as herbal cosmetics including adoption of better techniques for marketing of products to increase their reputation for quality and reliability in the country and abroad.
  • Development of protocols for cultivation and quality control and Encouraging the protection of patent rights and IPR.
  • Monitoring and evaluation of Projects on the promotion and Cultivation of Medicinal Plants.
  • Registration of farmers, growers. GOs, NGOs, Traders, collectors etc. Who are engaged in the medicinal plant sector.
